The winter the aliens arrived
by TD inthe writers of jw publications have never read a doom and gloom scenario that they didn?t thoroughly enjoy.
the accuracy of the information apparently is only a secondary consideration.
this may sound a little harsh, but consider the following example: .

Why do cults focus in on 'doomsday'?
by A Paduan inthat's my question - doomsday cults - how come ?

anything sitting at rest requires a force to move it....
a content mind feels no need to change its views....but few minds are that content... they are swimming with differing views which makes them unstable and insecure and fearful....leading to a desire for stability and absolutes....
doomsday cults present an ideal fantasy realm which seems like it could be made here and then blame our lack of its acheivement on our lack of agreement, which is a valid point... but the next point, that their way is the best and only way is not something which follows directly nor conclusively...
after all, what do they claim, that God being the creator knows best....father knows best...
yet there is no reason to believe that has to be true, after all, everything existing dies. there is no example of God's way being superior to anyone elses.... the crown jewel, Israel, the first born among all nations, did not give the world any example of perfection nor supreme triumph of God's way over man's... just a lot of excuses, claiming it would work if people would just follow it.
what basis is there to trust a god who grew up without anyone or anything to learn from? a god who had to make reality by trial and error? and if that God simply knew reality from beginning to end, does that mean anything really? it only means he is incapable of changing a single thing....cannot violate what he knows without realizing he really doesnt know it.

How long have you guys been out of the truth and what family background of the truth do you guys have?
I have never been out of the truth, I am out of the lies and deceptions and con game called Jehovah's Witnesses.
I have always desired to follow reality no matter where it leads me....and JWs seemed the way to me for many years until I woke up to the fact they were arrogant enough to lie about things people can check.
my family were all catholics of the agnostic sort, and were still there for me when I woke up

I made the mistake of not valuing higher education... I saw nothing but partying and it appeared from TV and movies that everyone went to college and so it was no big deal... I went instead to a trade school but dropped out as the end was so near and it was not as I expected things to be.
now I find out, many years later, that only 1 out of 4 attending college ever graduates and only about 1 out of ten going to high school ever makes it to college and so it is a very valuable thing to show potential employers...even if it is only to show that you can stick with something for four years.
the time spent is well worth it financially later...but if your child wants to be a prostitute or a parasite on society, or has talent that requires no employment, sure why not drop out.

Should I be worried.Or am I just paranoid?
by The Grudge inwell,to explain that,i haven't posted on this site in a while and obviously since this is my first post,it was a different screen name when i did.
my last post was about 6 months to a year ago.my status is, im a "fall away jw".i started having doubts about 2 years ago and they've done nothing but increase since i've been out.this isn't due to a spiritually week state of shutting "god" out of my life as a strong jw would say.instead,i've seen more shit go on in 2 years being away but still associated, then i care to list.yes,i am still associated through my wife and family, and have managed to stay at piece with everyone by keeping my mouth shut when it comes to my doubts, and now disbelief.
everyone has pretty much left me alone about not going to meetings.it wasn't that way at first, but i think they just gave up.my wife still believes its the truth but she would be considered a week jw since she doesn't go to the meetings alot.. as a 24 yr old newly married couple who just stopped going to meetings,we lost most of the "friends"we had.

So naturally,Im thinking, what if he read my posts. If he did, should I be worried? Why is it alright for elders to go to"apostate "websites? If he does know, will it ever come out?
personal experience:
I dropped from meetings in 1990.... caused no one any problems, but found a BBS [pre-web days] which was run by gay people [no JWs should be haunting there, right?]
elders show up with transcripts seeking to get me to admit it was me... they only had the first name and could not be absolutely sure... but I would not admit to anything... how did they get it?

When my ex and I first started dating she was a pioneer....but lagging in hours something feerce due to illness.... I felt she should resign as it seemed in my eyes, wrong to get the pioneer perks and discounts when she clearly was not able to be one.... but she told me at every turn the elders and the congregation in general kept making her feel she had to stick with it because they needed good pioneer numbers. I could see that it was taking a toll on her health and so could everyone else, but they did not seem to care...worrying more about numbers than people.[drones].
I felt it was too dishonest and damaging to her health to continue and forced her off the pioneer list...which did not cause too many ripples but was met with no little resistance.... worst of all, I later found that my ex was doing it mostly out of guilt-- no longer even believing in the cause from a bad experience...

What is the purpose of life?
by fearnotruth22 inthings were different when you were active in the org.
meetings, talks, service, assemblies, elders meetings, congrgational duties, busy with the hope of a reward of living forever and serving god with eternity in view.
all of your efforts and goals related to being a jw, your thinking, your views, your life, your future all revolved aroung the org.. with all that aside, what are you doing now?

I feared leaving JWs as I saw no purpose in life without the god view I had been brainwashed to accept...
but when I did leave, miracles of miracles, I did not find purpose and meaning to vanish...so I pondered this....
I realized that there is NO meaning or purpose of life...there is only meaning and purpose found by the living.
but what causes us to sense meaning?
I found that meaning comes from being aware that my next step, my next act, my next gamble, will have consequences and either enhance or harm my contentment.
and so that is the key... contentment is the state of being without anxiety, boredom, or suffering...and thing that causes that to change causes us to feel the need to make changes, to move...we feel e-motions[ latin for that which moves you ].
in physics I learned that in order for any motion to take place from a dead stop here must be some imbalance of forces and likewise if something is already in motion there must be some new force to slow it down or speed it up.
in the realm of ideas there are symbolic imbalances of forces which arise from comparisons of what you experience to what you think you should be experiencing instead... and a lot of that comes from trance induction via culture, religion and tradition which has brainwashed us from birth to reject the world we expeirence and work towards one which has been handed down as the ideal world.

What was Gods plan when He created the Earth or was it all an accident ?

Are we here because there exist a God and He has a plan, or does everything exist from an accident
I have noticed something I have never seen anyone else notice....
assume there is a god....who has always existed....
since that god never had a time when it did not exist, he never created himself and so had no control over his true nature, his desires which arise from that nature, his goals, dreams, intentions, etc. What came about was what had to come about and there is no such thing as freewill as there is no way that this god's will was ever in its control...and so had no ability to give any of us what never existed either.
as to an accident...if it has always been there was never a time that a judgement of accident vs plan would be meaningful.
perhaps cosmic joke is a better view :)
This still applies if you see reality as godless and just filled with energy.

What is more important to understand...

we are definitely connected with the real (in fact, we are real as biological individuals), but as soon as we try to describe or understand this connection we are already in a different dimension (symbolical and imaginary orders). Poetical, metaphorical, parabolical speech points to the connections of symbolic and imaginary with the real. On a clinical perspective, symptoms do the same thing.
this is your false assumption. what you consider "the real" is not.
reality by definition is what actually exist, not necessarily what we perceive to exist.
what you KNOW is not reality, but a symbolic perception of reality--if that... we may be in the MATRIX or some other virtual reality which has nothing to do with reality directly.
you assume we are a biological entity experiencing a real world... yet the only thing I can prove absolutely to myself is that the apparent physical world that I know only exists inside my mind and my body likewise is a symbol not a reality... my true nature may be completely alien to this and my experiences with out of body and past life regressions has convince me that such things are possible and that we may not be physical in any way that would make "sense"
